Sep. 12th, 2003 10:59 pmNice but pretty short hike (which was good, my ankle is only a little sore, but it's not stable, which unfortunately means my hip isn't very stable -- I am so pissed at myself for spraining my fricking ankle! Again!). Pikas everywhere. And chipmunks, and at least one douglas squirrel. And mushrooms. And cool rock ledges that would be perfect for sheltering from the rain (if somewhat trecherous to reach) except even when we sheltered there we were not provided with rain. Then again, neither of us had packed the making for tea -- it was, after all, a short hike. And strange shiny rocks that had a distressing tendency of coming apart under your hand. And pieces of quartz. And one of the nicer lakes I've seen this season, with odd reeds that rose to the surface of the lake, and then lay flat upon the surface, an effect oddly like the raking of the sand in a zen rock garden. And a weird polypore that turned out to be a type of deadaleopsis (spelling might be off).
And then a visit with
dianthus and the grandkittens.
Now I think I need dinner.
