So last night, while [livejournal.com profile] dianthus and I were munching honey walnut prawns, Craig called because one of the cats had brought in a bird. He had separated bird from cat, and the bird seemed relatively healthy, all things considered.

(I'm always at a bit of a loss when I get these calls... Like I'm supposed to know what to do?)

Anyhow, I recommended that he either a) release it into the wild or if it was too shocky b) put it into the empty aquarium that often gets presed into this kind of service, with some water and perhaps a heating pad underneath, and a cloth over the whole thing so it wouldn't try to fly through the glass.

So I got home, and Craig informed me that our feathered friend was now resident in our bedroom. (Hello, I thought the agreement was that I was consulted before anyone resided there ;-) ) D and I checked him out, and he seemed fairly happy with life. When I headed up to bed, in fact, he seemed all too happy with like, being rather a noisier roommate than I'd bargained for. He was fluttering around inside the aquarium, so I asked Craig to release him.

Unfortunately, the end result was that he was released into the room. I did not mean to stay up that late last night, really...!

Eventually he was caught again, and Craig brought him outside in a shoe box. I do not know all that happened on our darkened porch, but Craig came back in with the box and with the bird firmly attached to his hand. "It's cold out. I don't think he wants to be out there." Well, I could understand that. So he was returned to the aquarium, the lights went out, and we all settled down for the night.

Which went quite calmly until light returned. Craig, being the wonderful man he is, returned our friend to the outdoors when it became clear it was time. We wish him luck.
