So it's the end of what most people consider the backpacking season. ("Most people" may not mean me -- I used to go camping on the penninsula during December break a lot when I was younger, not sure about that yet.) But I haven't done any backpacking. Okay, a lot of that is the accident, but especially in light of that, I'm looking over my equipment and realizing that my beloved three man dome tent probably isn't really a good tent for backpacking. At least, not considering that I really need to look at packing light these days, since the musclre damage in my neck and shoulders means I can't play pack horse the way I used to. (Well, yet. Damn it, just look at me, obviously I was born to play pack horse. Silly shoulders have to be good for something)

And, as it happens there are all kinds of nifty sales on at reioutlet.com.

Should I buy a tent? Should I buy a bivy sack? Realistically, I want both -- I want to work up to soloing, and bivy sacks just make more sense for that. But for the moment, I don't think I want to go alone until I trust my back a little more, which means a nice, fairly light 2 man would be perfect. (Especially if I con someone else into carrying it. Gack.)

I'm not fanatic about ultra light. But light is good. Three season is more important -- heck, we mostly only have three seasons, anyway. (Fading Rainy, Lightening Rainy, and Summer. If I decide I need to camp on the mountains in the snow, I can darn well buy more equipment.) Is there a place with tent reviews? My head hurts...
