Is this the end for Zukia?

Actually, I'm feeling kind of relieved. She'd been having this problem for hte last few months, and I was stressing a lot over it, and having trouble explaining to my mechanics what was wrong. (Just today I was thinking "that's it, I'm going to go over there and make Ben get in my car and I'll drive him around and *then* he'll hear it!") Now, one way or another, it will be dealt with. It might be the drive shaft, it might be the transmission (but I really hope not!) it might be the transfer-thingie.

I guess either I get a new car, or I'l have one that runs decently, anyway.

I love my car. She's a great car -- good mileage, can haul, four wheel drive, can take the top off, and completely bohemian. Oh, and a lot of people are afraid of her.

It's going to be expensive. The drive line is gone.

I really like my car. I don't want to buy another car.

In addition, I've put a lot of work into that car, and it might take a fair bit of extra money on top of buying a new car to get my sound system moved over, install a hitch, etc. etc.

This really sucks.

The problem is that I really want to keep my car.

This is completely clear to me. Kinda wish it wasn't so much...

For about $1800 I can have everything fixed, including putting a new transmission in (which it may or may not need). I have sometimes found Samurai's for around $2000, with, it almost need not be said, better bodies than mine has -- though who knows what other technical problems, my engine itself is in good shape and everything else with the car, pretty much, has been replaced. (Though I'd still be looking at having to pay to get hitches on them and wired, most likely, and moving the stereo and speakers over. And I'l lose the steel plates that are welded to the frame and give my stereo such lovely extra security.)

I have a suspicion that the prudent thing to do is buy a new car. Of course, this is complicated by the fact that I've usually disagreed with a lot of the conventional wisdom concerning cars. I'd have to pay *so* much more to get a car that I was pretty sure wasn't going to develop major problems soon.

Will someone please talk some sense into me, please?

The end result is that Zukia will ride again. The scary part was how easy it was to arrange for the money... I don't want to start thinking about how easy it would have been to buy a new car...

Not the best day in wushu, though far from the worst. Having problems with asthma again -- not real major, but enough impeded oxygen flow I was getting dizzy. And my shoulder was feeling enough better that I re-aggravated it shooting hoops before class. (Yup, after I probably forgot to take my anti-inflamatories. I'm an idiot.)
