Feb. 6th, 2003 06:45 pmHalf the orchard is pruned. I got a late start, but worked until the light faded.
I love pruning. Moreso now, even -- there's a sense of continuity, as you work with the same trees year after year, and can come back to revisit question like "is this branch useful or in the way?" and see how your choices fromt he last year have worked out. I'm not certain I'm not going to be replacing a couple-three trees in the back orchard, but for the moment I'm not worrying about it (especially since deer have done such damage to the small trees in front, making me think that I should start getting only larger, more mature trees... We're planning another Raintree run, but then I wonder if we can fit the kind of trees I want into the car...)
And of course, I love pruning all the more because I'm doing it again. This time last year I still really wasn't up for most of the work.
So much to do! I really need to set up the lights for starts soon -- finally found the right set of shelves for them. And figure out where I put the timer and how much adapting I'm going to have to do to get it to do what I want.
