May. 12th, 2003 10:18 amStrange weekend. Drove up along the river past Snohomish Saturday. Didn't do much more than drive and then walk along it, but I'm glad I made the trip. Thinking about going morelling some more tomorrow, with Craig if I can drag him out there...
Lisa's open studio thing was great. Hung out until after closing...
Wushu was also a lot of fun. A little more trouble with my lungs than last week -- but then, half the class wasn't there because of Mother's Day (note: I called my mom, and she was basically too busy with her job to do anything but we had a nice chat ;-) ) making Mother's Day officially a much bigger deal than Easter at the school (and for a more intense class). At least among those people who were already taking Sunday classes, which is a rather self selecting group anyway.
Anyhow, I got to lead running (ack!) and didn't entirely disgrace myself. I think I need to practice the running sideways -- it's hard for me to do that up to speed, and I think I'm not bending my knees enough. We had two people in each line for fundementals, which meant there was almost no time between sets to catch one's breath, and my chest hurt a little, but not too bad. Form and jump work was just plain fun.
I think I should add some exercises such as we do in wushu warmups (especially pushups, and sit ups if my neck can hack it) and start doing some more regular anaerobic exercise -- my endurance is pretty good in general, but it slacks off a lot in that range (and my lungs are more likely to freak out) and I think regular training would make a big difference. It sounds kind of unpleasant, though.
Oh, and can someone tell me why one gets shin splints? I've never really had them before, but the last month or so they've been bothering me. Not quite sure what brought them on, and I'd like to see them on their way again.
