(no subject)
May. 4th, 2004 02:50 pmSo, out running errands, and a load of bricks fell on my head. Metaphorically, anyway. I knew I needed to be careful about getting enough sleep until I was sure I'd kicked this bug.
So no wushu for me. I so suck. (Yes, I'm being sane -- Taiji helps with this sort of thing, but wushu would be pushing it. Hopefully I'll be up for it tomorrow. However, I have a knee wrap belong to a classmate of mine, who will not be happy to do without it...)
Meanwhile, I finally started looking seriously at the PhD in genomics program at the UW...
Oh, dear. It looks much, much more attractive than I'd expected. Though there must be some backlog of annoying requirements that I still need to take... so far, mostly it looks like it would fit in with my (albeit fuzzy) existing plans pretty well.
Of course, the the whole area is just way too much like a candy shop. I mean, there's the Astrobiology Program. And the nifty nanotech stuff. (Okay, neither are really current interests of mine, that's all just Gee Whiz factor. Well, until I trip over them and they become interests, anyway.) There's even a statistical genetics department -- which is actually kind of annoying, because that's an area I'd enjoy working in, and am fairly qualified to work in (well, I think so, I and I think I could make a good case for it) but I don't think is all that I want to do. And the programming and numerical analysis background would, I think, stand me in very good stead for a lot of the modelling work that's going on.
Is this really what I want to do with the next bit of my life? Hmmm...
