May. 17th, 2004 12:18 amI tested today, in wushu.
All in all, I'm pretty happy. My sprained ankle was not doing well this morning -- a lot more sore than yesterday (I probably shouldn't have trained on it) but I iced and jowed it, survived the Chen class, stretched carefully, then wrapped it pretty tight before testing, and it held up okay.
Managed to give myself a little bit of asthma (I say give myself because it was defintely more a stress than an exertion reaction -- and I wasn't even *that* stressed -- and a lot of it was being worried about my ankle). Otherwise... probably did about the best splits I ever have done. Bridge went well, considering that I'm still not putting weight on my arms (shoulder is still too touchy). Waist turns were at least acceptable. Jumps went pretty well for me -- the butterfly was a little clumsy, but I think I'm getting better elevation. My lotus kick was weaker than my whirlwind, but mostly because my whirlwinds have gotten a lot better just in the last couple of weeks. The only move I skipped was the cartwheel. And the form went pretty decently, though just by when it occurred in the test, I was feeling a little winded. Shifu encouraged me not to push it with the endurance jumps, because of the injured ankle, but heck, it was the last thing on the physical test, so I didn't figure I had a lot to lose, and I completed them.
Wude evaluation actually rattled me. (This is the oral exam, usual my strongest area.) But after a bit of blanking out on one of the school virtues, I recovered. I did get all the material -- hope I didn't lose points for my initial hesitance. (And of course, then there's the highly subjective bit, since only part of it is based on memorization. But... she might dock me for not always helping set of carpets, but I don't really think so.)
So, I feel a lot more confident than I did after the last test... but also, I'm just not as attached to the outcome. Maybe I just have faith in the process. If I don't pass, I'll train some more, and life will go on. If I do pass, I'll get a nifty new shirt (which I could use) and start working on sword. The training is the important part.
