a vague little update
Dec. 8th, 2005 09:53 pmGot some kind of cold over the weekend. It's mostly gone now, though I've been really spacey and sleepy this evening. The new drugs do tend to make me spacey and sleepy, but it tends to fade as the evening progresses whereas this has gotten noticably worse. (And they'd mostly stopped making me so sleepy, too.) So I'm going to bed soon. PT appointment tomorrow morning before class, anyway.
Everything that has been up in the air is still up in the air. Still not applying to grad school this year. I could really use a spine that worked.
On that note, though, my spine does seem to be calming down. I've gone... well, okay, two and a half days without anything majorly tweaking. A few muscle spasms, but they agreed to be beated down. And I had a good class last night. There is hope.
There is also a Master Chen seminar this weekend. Twelve hours spread over two days. I think he is going to be disappointed with me this year.
Been working on a really silly evolutionary genetics assignment. Hard to stay focused, in part because I'm sleepy and spacey, and in part because it is silly and mechanical (reconstructing phylogeny trees using parsimony. bah) and I got into a lovely argument with the professor yesterday that ended with him proclaiming that he was right and I was wrong. (Without either of us working through all of the math.) So I told him I'd write it up. It's a much prettier problem, and I want to finish writing that up. (Ergh. Though it's not going to be as conclusive as I'd like it to be. It's all going to come down to whether he's willing to grant me a point regarding relative vs. absolute fitness. I *think* I'm on solid ground, but I don't know if I have enough information.)
On top of the other one I was already working on, which he doesn't know I'm writing up formally. (That one is much more solid, though not as interesting, I think.)
