So I've been on a quiet little of the campaign to get the cafeteria in the rotunda to carry more vegetarian entrees. They mostly stopped carrying such about the time they stopped carrying the really good vegan sandwiches in the rotunda cafe (that not only tasted good, but were made out of fascinating fake meat products, and I do like my food to provide entertainment as well as nourishment), which seemed downright mean to me. And recently -- I can only assume I'm not the only one -- they have been offerring more vegetarian entrees. So I've made a point of buying them.
I've got to remember to be careful about these senses of obligation. Okay, sweet and sour tofu as an alternative to sweet and sour chicken -- that makes sense. If they'd made it with some pineapple, water chestnuts and garlic, it could even have been passable, maybe. (I hate commercial sweet and sour sauce.) I knew it would be vile (though passible with enough roasted veggies). I didn't need to know that preparation involved taking a bowl of cubed tofu, ladelling a great deal of sweet and sour sauce over it, and putting it in the microwave for three minutes.
Worse, I had some good food I could have brought in with me today, but I left it in the fridge...
