May. 11th, 2006 12:08 amLast weekend my sister reminded me that the REI sale includes 20% off a single item for members, so yesterday I bit the bullet and bought myself a decent pair of panniers, some nice bright yellow roll top waterproof ones. And while I was there I took the opportunity to pick up a bunch of small stuff I've been needing -- a bottle cage and connectors to hold my new headlight battery (never liked the old arrangement), a hex widget intensive multi tool to replace the one that was in the missing pannier, a filtration cartridge, some more fuel for the stove... I didn't buy an ultra-light sleeping bag, though I did spend a while burrowing my face into some of the new hypo-allergenic down bags.
All these years I've been on the recumbent, I've never really sat down and really gotten it set up properly -- enough for most commuting, maybe, but kind of half assed. Especially when compared to how picky I used to be about my gear. Fear of commitment, maybe? I still miss my upright...
But no more. Worked out an attachment point for the new battery. Got my favorite blinker back on. Found a better place for the pump. (Nothing fits quite right on a recumbent, but then you feel twice as good when you work something out.) Got the new panniers set up, and figured out how much I can easily carry -- a lot more than I'd take backpacking.
Now I just have to move my clipless pedals over and pick up a couple of innertubes (also more complicated on a recumbent).
Oh, and then I have to take a vacation.
