Things that make me happy

So I stayed home this morning to work on the fellowship application. (Which is going well. I rock! 547 words is not entirely unlike 300 words, right? Okay, so today I write, tomorrow I edit. Only one more hard section to go.)

Anyhow, K decided to come home to work as well. So after finishing one section I came out to get an apple and get my head clear. And he says: "Hey, if you have a moment, tell me if you think this is weird..." And proceeds to work through a proof relating the area of the surface of a sphere to the area of a cylinder. (Hey, a sphere is kind of like a soma, and a cylinder is kind of like a neuron, and...) For this we have several large white boards in the living room.

So, several happy minutes of math, and it occurs to me "Oh, hey that's conceptually similar to triang-- oh, wait, I guess that's exactly equivalent." And then we ended up talking about parvoviridae, which turned into me reading an article about them, and between that all it was exactly the break I needed.

I'm still not sure that it's good for us to work in the same lab, but...
