Tuesday's surgery slug ate today. Actually, he's doing much better than Monday's slug. (Which isn't that surprising - I had concerns about Monday's slug's health from the start, but I figure that since it was the first time on the procedure *I* was more likely to be the problem than the slug.)

Yesterday's slug... well, that didn't go so well. Definitely need to be working with retractors. Really, I need another hand. Maybe a gentle clamp with some soft rubber bits and retractors... (I need one hand to hold the slug's mouth open and it's odontophore out - and it really doesn't want to stay out - one to weild the forcepts, and one the surgical scissors.) Anyhow, while trying to juggle all of this the entirel radular surface detached from the odontophore, and the radular stalk halfway inverted... Ugh.

We've also had a couple of deaths unrelated to anything I'm doing (I suspect a pathogen in one of the tanks - though it's the tank with the new UV filter, and up until this point it had been doing really well) and a slug that someone had extracted hemolymph from died... and as I'm committed to leave five healthy slugs for my lab mates, I'm running out. I think I might use Monday's slug in a biomechanical experiment (since it's not doing that well already). And I'm going to retry yesterday's experiment on one of my two remaining slugs... And I'm not through half of the I2 work I wanted to get done, and I have time, but no animals.

*sigh*

Otherwise, been a nice quiet day. Realized I was feeling kind of dead, so I read a lot of trash fiction and hung around the house. Skipped most of my workout. (When I'm not quite getting better this consistently, I will try really taking it easy. At least for a day.) Finally ventured out to do lab stuff and, keeping with tradition, find a Chinese restaurant. And that part was nice - just randomly drove down to Chinatown, found a hole in the wall place that was open, but it smelled right and the food was good. Somehow we moved to off the menu negotiations quickly. And accidentally on my part - the menu options looked fine. OTOH, the greens with three kinds of egg were really very nice. And the eggplant was exactly right. Well, it wasn't spicy, but it was otherwise right.

And now I have a ton of leftovers.
