Cleveland Local: Chen Class Starting Up
Jun. 2nd, 2010 07:06 pmSo it looks like I'm going to be starting up a Chen class. Generally posting on LJ is about as much as they're advertised (I might drop a note to Facebook as well) - I'm lazy, I don't do this professionally, and I like to work with people I have some social connection to.
As most of you know, Chen Taijiquan is my primary martial art. It's the oldest form of Taiji - it has the flowing soft movements most people associated with Taiji, but while it all can be done softly and in high stances (and most people do at first) fully expressed it is largely done in lower stance, and includes rapid "fa jing" (power release) movements, flying jump kicks, and other things that might not jump to mind with Taiji.
My classes vary a lot depending on the students, but I generally tend to focus a lot on posture and working with injury and chronic pain... and applications. And physics. We'll be working through Chen Zhenglei's eighteen posture short form. Classes have generally been an hour and a half, split between warm ups and stretching, fundamentals, and form work.
At the moment, I'd like to put together a list of interested people and work out the specifics of time and place over email - though weekend afternoons are one of the more promising times for me, the yard behind out apartment building might make a workable place through the summer, and there's a party room upstairs that might possibly make a good back up location. (I don't charge for the classes, but there will be some kind of class fee if we can't find free space. I like free...)
