Android Phones

Monday, it seems, I lost my phone.

There are a lot of complications to this, as I didn't lose any of the pieces of the phone lumiere actually gave me*... and I have a bunch of other parts of G1s sitting around**. But I suspect to get another fully functional phone out of what is left I would either have to finish JTAGing one board (which would be easy, except one pad is damaged and the auxiliary pad is inaccessible - well, I can attach to it, but I haven't been able to attach to it and still have space to reattach the connector that fits over the same space) or figure out what component is messed up on another board and replace it. (Probably just some capacitor, but... anyhow. I do mean to spend more time on this, but playing around with the rework station is leisure time activity.)

I could also probably reclaim the phone I was giving to K, but the thought makes me cranky. (Especially if he finishes the rebuild while I'll out here.)

So I am at least considering getting a new android phone. My requirements are that it be rootable and have a reasonable dev community behind it and that it have a keyboard. Good battery life and good performance are up there. Oh, and I think that it cost less than the Dell Streak. It doesn't have to be much of a phone - really I want a compact data device on which I can place the occasional call.

Thoughts? Recommendations either way?

* And I love that phone.
** It's kind of a long story, and honestly I'm not sure I want to explain. I have had a great deal of fun, and there was some stupidity involved.

Of course, after all that it sounds like Frakenphone has been found!

But I'm still interested in people's thoughts on other Android phones. Though this makes it more likely I'll wait to hear a bit more about the Streak (and my funding).

This after I pushed to get Frankenphone functional just for the trip, because hey, isn't that when I'll use it the most? (I was pretty fried Monday afternoon...)
