The barge is
What's it like?
Think an particularly nicely appointed studio apartment on the lake. With a sleeping loft, and wood floors, and windows that look out over the water...
Does it rock around and stuff?
A little. So far I mostly haven't noticed much, and when I have it's seemed soothing.
Where is it?
In Fremont, right next to Adobe. Right next to the Burke-Gilman Trail. About a block from the big new PCC, and a few blocks down from the troll. On the water. With ducks.
Who will you be living with?
No one. Though I expect Craig and perhaps others will stay over from time to time (and I'll be in Woodinville at least one night a week) I will be living by myself. This will actually be the first time I've lived on my own, and I'm rather looking forward to it.
Does this mean you and Craig are breaking up?
No. Our relationship is certainly changing (note: we're not dead) but we remain involved ;-)
Why are you doing it, then?
Two different answers. The first, as to why I'm moving into town during the week (a plan which predated me ever having seen the barge), is mostly a stress and survival thing. Commuting in from Woodinville, caring for the house in Woodinville, keeping up with my martial arts practice, spending time in the lab, and taking classes... the combination was driving me mad. And leaving me chronically sleep deprived, and getting sick a lot. Something had to give.
As for why the barge... barge! On the water! Absolutely beautiful! I walked in and wanted to live there. I already know I'm not going to want to leave. I've dreamed of living in a small little cabin (with a sleeping loft) by the water for years. For it to be right next to everything, and on the water... the only thing that could make it more perfect were if it had a wood burning brick oven. And even I can see that is silly.
Clearly, I need a barge icon.
