For those that might be interested, I was thinking of leading a foraging outing this Sunday, probably around one or so.
Possible destinations:
Arboretum / Interlaken Park -- Pros: university local, easy going, and we found a ton of Armillariella
mellea yesterday. Cons: Fairly urban, heavily trafficked, and hey, soon the mountains will be under snow
Jonathan Hartmann Park -- Pros: Redmond local, quite mycologically active, nicely wooded Cons: Another boring city park, possibly of more interest to someone doing microscopic work, and it's not mountains.
Wallace Falls or some other fairly close in mountain trail. Pros: Mountains! Mushrooms! Sultan Bakery! Cons: Driving! (and I'd far prefer someone else would drive) Gas prices! Time!
[Edit]
Way the hell out by Roslyn -- Pros: Best chance of finding chantrelle Cons: Way the hell out by Roslyn
Obviously I need a mushroom icon. Must fix that when I get home.
Oh, and
plantae -- the honey mushrooms were great, definately need to eat more of them. Wonderful firm, almost crisp texture, even when cooked. (I cooked them with olive oil, garlic and just a touch of wine. Lemon juice would have worked as well.) The bolete you were interested in is, I think, Boletus chrysenteron, though I'm wishing I could remember which key I was using for Boletus in the lab, because I'm not happy with Arora on this one, and am mostly resorting to notes. It is edible, if not spectacular. (Ergh. This is bugging me, because I know I had it listed as "not worth eating" for some reason in particular. Must ask Joe.) The pleurotoid thingie was, as suspected a Crepidotus. Haven't sat down with the pholiota yet.
