tylikI just had the most amazingly pleasant afternoon.
So as a family, we kind of officially gave up on Christmas around the time Tracey was born. But then it turned out that Sean still wanted some Christmas, and it turned out it was kind of convenient having a quiet after solstice gathering for just immediate family, so things crept back in a little.
Anyway, this year my mother was off with her sister in Colorado, so when I got back from Taiji (note: my Taiji class are the coolest ever, and thanks to everyone who came, it just made my day) I headed over to Lauren's place, where she, Tracey, Sean and Sam were gathered. Gifts were exchanged (Lauren knitted me a neck warmer!) we ate tons of smoked oysters and cocktail shrimp, and then we had dinner, which was also lovely. (Lauren had gotten these salmon things wrapped around a filling that involved bay shrimp from TJ's, and serendipitously I happened to have a bunch of portobella mushrooms with me. So we drizzled the mushrooms with olive oil, and then baked the salmon things each on a mushroom cap. She served these with a salad with candied pecans and gorgonzola -- oh, crap, I forgot to retrieve my raspberry vinegar -- butter balsamic roasted veggies, and garlic mashed potatoes. Definately a happy tummy day.)
Then I gave Sam a ride, stopping by the boat where we hung out and talked out the search for meaningful work, and what does it mean to have people attracted to you for the right reasons rather than the wrong reasons, and health, and gossip, and posture (okay, so it was me, and everyone in my family asks me if their back hurts). And he's probably going to join the Monday Taiji group when that starts up. Maybe with his best friend / roommate W. (Yay! With Tracey starting wushu, we will have gotten the whole immediate family. Really, this wasn't my intent when I encouraged Lauren to check out wushu, but... And if Sam takes to Chen, we'll drag him into wushu next.)
