tylikI so very much need to get a recumbent icon...
So today I was really feeling the lack of serious physical activity (long hours plating yeast will do that), and was considering spending the evening either working on some of the gymnastic moves that I'm still too shy to do in class or possibly heading down to try a class at Quantum.
However, instead I managed to wipe out pretty thoroughly on the way home, on my bike. Yep, on the recumbent. The seat came off, with me on it, and slid forward, and I lost control of the bike. Didn't land badly, considering the speed I was going, my body relaxed and rolled on cue, nice that it remembered. But I managed to skin a patch about the size of my palm on my calf (lightly, not as badly as I skinned it a few years back) took a deeper scrape on my ankle, and skinned my right forearm. Oh, and I did bad things to one of my shoes. This pisses me off at least as much, as the shoes won't heal.
No big, really. The seat came off once before, but that wasn't a big deal. I was also going a lot slower, and not turning that time.
Edit: I am reminded of the general wisdom of, when you have just fallen or been thrown off your bike (the first time I did this I'd been hit by a car) go to your nearest bike shop for tea and sympathy. Or at least alcohol wipes, band-aids and sympathy. I could have gotten the seat on myself, I'm sure, but my hands were shaking enough that it made it hard, and it was kind of nice to stop bleeding over everything ;-) And of course, any bike shop that helps patch you up wins your undying affection, so it's a good move on their part.
