Of course, the hike didn't end up happening, but I'm a little relieved. After only getting about four hours of sleep (the problem with staying up late for me is that I'm not really good at sleeping in) finding no one to meet us (who was coming on the hike, anyway) was kind of a relief. Of course, instead of crawling back into bed we went shopping, and I have now replaced my battered running shoes, and bought myself some excessively technical but kinda cute shorts. (Mens. Did I mention how much I hate the way sizing is handled? I don't even want to fess up to how much I paid for the blasted things, but they're comfy and will do the job, which is more than I can say for any other shorts I've tried on in the last several years.)
Maybe I'll go hiking tomorrow, when I'm less sleepy. Somewhere properly Alpine, I think.
