(no subject)
Nov. 23rd, 2008 02:56 pmTaking a little break from GABA channels found in the structures related to song learning and production in zebra finches. (Yes, a subject I knew nothing about at all before last week. Makes it more fun.)
I have actually bruises on my forearms. This has become pretty rare (I assume buildup of fibrous tissue from all the whacking my forearms get on a regular basis) - but then, today's sparring, while only half and hour so far, was way up on the fast and continuous side. Half an hour was still too short, but at least we made every minute count.
Kind of working on the checklist for the next dwelling (assuming we manage to go house hunting in the months before our lease is up this time, but we've been talking about it a lot.)
* Bigger sparring space. Tiny bedrooms are fine. We could probably share a bathroom (though even an extra half bath would be nice). There's a lot of flexibility about how and where other things are set up... but darn it would be nice to have more room for morning sparring.
* Basement or other areas that could become good lab space, and could incorporate a hood - separate ventilation from the main living space, anyway. Bonus if this could include room to hang a heavy bag and for a small chest freezer.
* Good light. Okay, we can make this, but windows for plants would be great, and lots of light for us is a big plus. (I don't think either of us really wants to admit that we'd pay for a view yet, but... I will pay for light. Hell, we *do* pay for light.)
* More wall space. A lot of this could be in how we set things up, though. Currently our walls are a little dominated by bookshelves and whiteboards, and a bit more wall with clear floor space in front for some yoga poses would be good.
* An glassed-in porch or sunroom would be awesome. Some outdoor gardening space - even a balcony - would also be nice. Our current place has a lot of windows, and we are maxed out for plant space. And some of the perrenials I'd like to grow would like a bit of shelter from Cleveland winters.
* Same general neighborhood. Close to campus is a must, and I like the walk up and down the hill, myself.
* A better place for the futon / guest room might be nice. I like to have something soft to sit and study on, but it takes up a lot of floorspace, and means that guests are in the living room, where they might have people thrown on them during sparring. Not a big priority except as it relates to floorspace, though.
* Decent kitchen, air conditioning of some sort, appropriate acoustical separation from neighbors. For the last, it would probably good to go for a house or half a duplex. We never stay up late, play loud music or have parties... but we get up awfully early and can be kind of rambunctious then. And quiet is nice.
