So my internet-in-my-pocket might be dying. Which shouldn't be a huge surprise - it's three years old now, and has had a hard life. The 4 pin USB port has come loose, and so far while I have reaffixed it to the circuit board, I have not manage to reattach the four (very small) connectors. (I will consult with K when he returns, as he has better developed small electronic repair fu. Maybe. I hope. Part of the problem is that the working angle is pretty bad.)
It still works. But I need to either repair it (which seems kind of unlikely) or come up with an alternative method of charging the battery. (This is why I'm an open hardware standards idealist. If I could get my hands on appropriate documentation I suspect I could hack together a charger no problem.)
And it's probably time to look into replacing it. Which is particularly annoying, because I'd just decided that I might be willing to spring for a Touchbook... and I haven't decided which linux based smartphone I want to get yet. And I tend to need a long period of recovery after springing for nifty new tech gadgets.
