General Sort of Update
Nov. 9th, 2009 10:49 amGosh, I haven't been writing much here recently.
The saga of the hot air rework station is still not resolved - the order that was to contain my new one didn't go out because of snow. Then it did go out, and finally arrived, sans rework station. (I think things were pretty crazy in the aftermath of the storm.) The actual replacement is supposed to be on the way.
I have a new undergrad assistant, one of the Anatomy students, who I'm pretty enthused about working with. Generally developing a high opinions of vet students. Vet students who rearrange their schedules so they can take the Grimm's fairy tales in German get extra bonus points. Someone else is wanting to volunteer - not sure if that's a good fit, and I'm feeling awfully picky, but she's into biomechanics so I'll definitely meet with her. Having fun with my research, though feeling a little scattered. Gearing up to TA computational neuroscience for next semester, which should be fun. (I have permission to rework the Neuron exercises in python, but the python bindings for neuron are being annoyingly hard to set up - not undoable, I think, but it hints at me spending a lot of time doing tech support. Foo. I hate hoc. And I have to set up a windows VM, or something, so as to better support the poor users of Windows. When I was a student in this class I handed out a lot of Ubuntu CDs...)
Training continues. Still working on peng, it's just a completely different peng now. Today was all about working on my root. Well, and everything else. Really missing training with Shifu. It's exhilarating to feel like things are changing this much, but it would be reassuring to get a little feedback. (Okay, I do get feedback in the form of sparring, but that's different. *grin* K's been doing a lot of something that has its roots in Pukelon snake, and a bunch of something very dragonish. It's interesting to be on the receiving end... and I'm going to start working with B on sparring.) Still with the dregs of a low level virus. Today it was warm out while I trained, and my lungs didn't complain but it was windy and my ears ached a lot by the end. Most of the way through Chen Jian.
Another Anatomy exam today. Third of four. And I haven't seen it yet. (Which a) means I probably won't have a chance to argue for rewording if any of the questions are confusing and b) means that it'll be seat of the pants for answering questions during the exam. But that's not usually a major problem.) (Okay, I just got a copy. Hm. Strikes me as pretty reasonable, really.)
K's off at sesshin for this week. I generally enjoy having the place to myself, but I'm feeling a bit at loose ends, though not at all in a not having enough to do sort of way. (Though I am reminded of just how much we usually do together. Most of which, granted, I also do on my own.) I'm pretty content with not going, at least this time (I have this general sense that if I'm going to take that much time off I should head back to the coast to train - but I probably will go at some point) but I do kind of wish I could take a week to train and drink tea and tromp around in the mountains. Um, I mean now. But instead it's exams and interviews and research and OMG how the heck am I supposed to get anything done if I attend even half of these seminars?... and a yoga seminar this weekend. It will be good.
Strangely warm weather. All the drifts of dry crackling leaves are fun.
