Feb. 5th, 2012 05:32 pmOn Tuesday, at yoga, one of the other students had a sprained ankle that was pretty highly purple. So I dug out some jow and lent her a bottle. This got me thinking that maybe I should use some jow on my own damaged feet. So I've been trying that. Maybe it helps? It's hard to tell just what's going on with my feet - they were doing a lot better through mid-week, and have been kind of hurty since my last PT appointment. (Sometimes weirdly. Yesterday mid-day they got really tight for no apparent reason other than I hadn't been on them for an extended period of time.)
Just had another Shaolin/Chen class. Small turnout (as expected) but much fun. Now the other eleven year old wants to know more about sitting. We pulled out the zafu, zabuton, benches, stool, a various support cushions (not a lot of pulling as we have class in the zendo) and pointed to the chairs that are usually used, and everyone tried different positions (the other folks had also expressed interest). So.
Yesterday I spent most of the day feeling nauseous and awful, and only late in the afternoon did it occur to me that my achy upper back and shoulder were not a separate problem but part of the same problem. A hot bath and some more aggressive work on my upper back cut way back on the nausea. This shouldn't surprise me - it was a major problem when I was at Microsoft - but it's rare enough these days that I mostly shrug and think "stomach bug? what the heck? I almost never get stomach bugs." Today is much better.
Though I should remember to eat between training and sunday morning zazen/teisho. On the other hand, having leftover golden oyster mushrooms with tatsoi and chickpeas is a great way address that issue of hunger.
Golden oyster mushrooms. Let me restate that. Strongly my favorite oyster mushrooms to date. Might ask T for some spawn. Mm. Also, getting local organic tatsoi and spinach in February? Pretty awesome.
Though it's been a weirdly warm winter. I mean, even compared to the others while I've been here, and it's tended towards warm, I hear. (The lake has only frozen once. And it was not an impressive freeze.)
Got some wool pants from ebay - a complete guess, but they fit! So, another line of pants I can wear. Now if I can just find them in black...
