Dec. 24th, 2012 05:38 pmIt's always a little disappointing to see a forecast that ends "Chance of overnight snowfall of less than half an inch is possible" and you can look out and think "Um, we've gotten more than half an inch in the last ten minutes..."
But overall, I am filled with goodwill and joy. Almost disturbingly so - we just had the second annual taiji open house, which is to say an all levels class followed by goodies. (Goodies in this case being chocolate tangelo bread, a fruit platter, and apple cider. Mm.) And... darn, I just have the best students ever. And one of the families that I haven't been seeing much of due to scheduling concerns (both parents are classical musicians) were able to make it, and I am reminded of how much I adore them all. And R and Cm demo'd the dao form. And the backyard deer decided to make an appearance. (Probably to raid our compost heap, but hey.) And we talked about music and languages and international politics and museums and movies and dance and... yeah. (N: "We have the best Christmas conversations here!")
And... aw. Such a perfect way to wrap up the year. (And as we were heading out the snow got serious. 12 year old N: "Yay!" Everyone else: "Ugh.")
I'm normally pretty willing to be happy at snow, but my current plan involves taking my bike down to campus at about 5:45, and hopping the rapid from there to the airport, and... oy. I'm good on ice, but not so much on light fluffy snow, and I doubt they'll be sending out snow plows early on Christmas morning. Well. Should be fun.
(Yes, I've had two people offer to give me rides. Which is why I was checking the weather report - I like using public transportation, and it's awfully convenient to have my bike on campus for the return trip. And both of my major sources of forecasts agree there's not going to be much accumulation... but if it isn't looking better by bed time, I am totally calling L and begging for that ride after all.)
