Huh. I'm not really sure what I think. All and all, pretty decent...

Visually I was pretty happy with it. There were a few points where I was laughing when I wsn't really sure if I ought to be, but all and all, it worked pretty well. In general, the Rohirrim architecture was stunning. Damn.

So far, they've done well by Eowyn. I was really worried about that. We're not out of the woods yet, and there's a potential set up for a major pitfall... but they've picked up on most of the lines central to a strong portrayal of her character. (And her swordwork made my day. I think I might even know that form...)

Arwen worked. Liv Tyler totally failed to annoy me. I'm kind of amazed just for that. In fact, I got to liking what they're doing with her.

Smeagol is handled well. Heh. If he tries anything, Sam will kill him.

I knew going in that a lot of their plot changes were going to show up a lot more in this movie... I still have to sit with those a while, though.

The portrayal of Faramir was a little hard for me to take, though. I'm trying to convince myself it was all a matter of dramatic tension... but while I'm pretty okay with taking liberties with the plot, taking liberties with important characters is harder. (And Faramir is Craig's favorite charactor, and pretty high on my list, too.)

Oh, and the scene with Galdolf falling had me thinking a little too hard of the secret diaries.
