tylikI just heard that Edward Said died last week. I'm shocked.
With the increase of tensions in the middle east, and both the renewed attention and increased hostility from the US towards Islam, his political writings have been seeming to me to be all the more relevant.
(With Said, I often feel like whether one specifically agrees with him is really not the point -- he was brilliant, and will change the way you think about the questions he poses.)
I'm also feeling like there must be something very wrong in my life that I only heard now.
