Black Sash
Apr. 16th, 2003 10:03 pmA few people asked about Black Sash. (Probably wondering why I'm actually watching television.)
It's a WB teen drama. I've only seen the first episode (there have been three, but I'm lame). It doesn't seem to suck too bad. Actually, it looks vaguely okay if you can stand the genre. Hard to say much from the first episode, I do like the fact that the teacher is on the young side (there is an old guy, but he's in advisory role) and frankly a bit on the clueless side when it comes to communicating with teenagers.
The reason I'm watching it is it's all about a bagua school. And the main character, the teacher, is played by Russell Wong, who's fairly for real as these things go.
I study bagua, and being a fairly non-mainstream martial art, I feel semi-compelled to watch. And so far, I've seen some good bagua, I've seen some mediocre bagua (but it was a student) I've seen some weird bagua that I haven't been what was the deal, and I've seen some wushu forms in the background, perhaps masquerading as bagua. Oh, and I got my crouch stance to bow stnce transitions working better than they ever have before, which put me in a good mood.
