Apr. 26th, 2003 05:56 pmMmm... Hiking two days in a row.
Yesterday Tshar and I went up to the Old Robe Trail. Gods but that's a beautiful trail. And it was just the perfect weather for it, too. Things are coming into bloom, but it's still on the early side for many plants. The river was higher and greyer than I've ever seen it -- I'm used to it being very clear, but with the thaw high waters it was cloudy and fierce. That trail has some of the best rocks... I had a vauge idea of stopping by to check out some of the higher trails off the mountain loop highway, so I can get an idea when they become accessible, but that didn't happen, and we still ended up getting back late.
I'm wanting to do some more technical hikes, but there's a lot to be said for the short but spectacular ones, especially if significant amounts of time are spent checking out the local flora...
Today was the group hike to Twin Falls.
cadmus,
samajh,
jinasphinx,
plantae,
autumngray,
poetry_lady,
craigp, Adam (do you have an lj?), Autumn's boyfriend whose name I didn't get and
cadmus's daughter all came along, definately making a good turnout, despite my sending everone to the Starbucks attached to the one local Barne's & Noble that doesn't have an attached Starbucks. (Mea culpa.)
It started out cold and rainy, and then became cold and gery, and finally sunny and fine. And the word ofthe great Pojar was spread, among other discussions of botanical subjects. Another very pretty place to be. (Though it was too crowded for martial arts on the bridge.)
And I got a hat full of oyster mushrooms.
Now I am stuffed full of Indian food and really feeling like curling up in a sunbeam and taking a nap. We stayed up until one last night watching "Hero" -- which was a good movie, though I think I've reached a point where I would prefer a bit less flying with the martial arts. Very pretty, rather stylized... I liked the overall plot a great deal, and the characters of Broken Sword and Flying Snow were among the more interesting I've seen -- I've got to see what else Tony Leung has been in, his performance was amazing. But darn it, I didn't want it to be another doomed lovers theme. One of the more interesting treatments of the Qin emperor, though I have reservations...
And then this evening, off to an Uncle Bonsai concert.
