Dear World:

I supposed I should have known what kind of day this was going to be when I arrived for my dentist appointment this morning and found the place gutted. A bit over the top, wasn't it, when I called them and found that everything had been moved from the Kirkland to the Bellevue office to tell me to head on over, they could still see me.... and then decide that no, in fact, they couldn't see me after I arrived. But really, I can be slow, but by that point I'd gotten the message.

The egregiously stupid (but avoidable) crashing issue in Enterprise Manager certain fits into the theme. And now the fileservers are down? So I'm supposed to be populating a database with data I can't actually reach?

Okay, okay, I surrender! What do I need to do? I mean, considering how bad my allergies already are today, I'd really prefer to avoid burning incense to the computer gods, but I think I might be willing to kill a chicken. Would that suffice?

The guy from the MS Grant got back, hasn't yet found the OLAP contact I need, but did more research into OLAP, and yeah, it should do what I want it to do, and yeah, it should be able to import the data the way I want it to, but he wasn't able to get it to do so on his box, yet. Which is validating, and pretty much confirms my experience. I will even more validated when I can find out how to get the sucker to work, though.

Importing data by hand is amazingly tedious. (When I say "by hand" I mean "using standard import tools instead of scripting the imports".) What I'm doing right now just small enough that it's not quite worth slitting my wrists over, though...

Meanwhile, I have a bunch of Chinese homework to do, but would like to rant at some length about Hero, which I saw again today. Before I just thought I wasn't wild about it. Right now I'm leaning towards disliking the movie somewhat profoundly and all the more so because there are parts of it I like very much. And it's not just the handling of the Qin emperor, or glorification of suicide (specifically really dumb suicide) though those parts do feature in my larger problems with the movie.
