Tea Alert!
Sep. 6th, 2009 02:57 pm(and I really should make a better tea icon one of these days...)
When I was visiting Seattle recently, I made matcha for some largish number of people. (Often, very strong matcha. Sorry to you early test drinkers - we've gotten rather insular, I guess, and around hereabouts we like our tea strong ;-) The "weak tea, normal tea, cup of coffee, shot of espresso" scale does show some promise, though.)
Overall, most people seemed to prefer the Yuuki Midori of the two varieties I brought with me. (The other being the Yuuki Konjo - which is also a very nice tea, but might be a bit more of an acquired taste.)
However, I did not bring any of one of my favorite teas with me, as I only had a relatively small cannister. This is the Yame Matcha, which has been my "weekend tea" - not that I have it every weekend, but it's a special treat for when I have the time and concentration to enjoy it.
Anyhow, today we placed another large tea order, and while doing so noticed that the Yame Matcha is now available in 100g bags, and for less than I've seen any other source offering the 40g cannisters. I mean, yes, matcha is an expensive habit, but this price struck me as kind of unreal.
However... (you knew there was a catch, right?) Well, I went back to the site, to grab the url, and found that the Yame Matcha, along with the Yuuki Konjo, is now listed as sold out. I suspect this is a direct result of our order (no, please don't ask about the size of our order). So this is a really great tea... that you can't order right at the current moment. They'll probably get more in soon. Our experiences with this company so far have been excellent.
