Nov. 3rd, 2003 11:11 pmWent up to Twin Falls today. Haven't been for a while -- it's a pretty easy walk, but close in and convenient, and I really like practicing forms on the bridge. And I needed to stop by Ikea, so I convinced myself that they made a logical pairing. (Dubious.) So after surviving Ikea I headed up.
It was very cold, especially inland and up a little ways, and then right by the water. I was wearing a pair of jeans (I never wear jeans hiking, but I figured they were windproof or something, and it was more of a walk in the park than a hike, anyway) a long sleeved cotton shirt, my mesh lined nylon shell, boots and wool socks. Which at a gut level doesn't seem like it should feel that different from a wicking baselayer, hiking cargos and a liner under the socks, but it really does. There's nothing like not having it to make you appreciate good equipment.
That having been said, it was fine as long as I kept moving, so I did so. It was both nice to see everything again, and yet unsatisfying in that it felt too close in -- I think I wanted some place a lot more remote, it was just kind of impractical for the day. And yet it is magnificent. I got that odd feeling of dislocation and mild dizziness that I always seem to there. What is with that? I used to figure that it was my neck acting up, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case today.
Didn't spend as much time doing forms on the bridge as I'd like. There were a number of retired couples walking through, and I wasn't really in the mood for an audience. (And I was sticking to te more athletic forms for staying warm, and they're annoying to do after a while in jeans and hiking boots. Especially crescent kicks...)
Mm. To bed early. My back is slightly tweaked, I didn't sleep nearly enough last night, and the thought of several hours of oblivion sounds positively delicious. Though I need to knead some bread first...
