Phone / Camera Report
Feb. 29th, 2004 07:29 pmSo as I mentioned before, I finally got myself a bluetooth phone. (Sony-Ericsson T610) And the silly thing has a camera attached.
When I bought it, the guy in the shop (the otherwise clueful one, who was not mystified by bluetooth in general) told me that the phone was locked so that you could only send pictures from the camera over email, at a cost of 25 center per. Which seemed awfully lame, but then I was more interested in the bluetooth than the camera, it wasn't that much, and I figured there was a good chance I could get around it.
Indeed. Don't know what he was talking about, but while it isn't completely obvious, it's fairly easy to save them locally and send them via Bluetooth.
And meanwhile, it's about as much camera as I want to deal with for the most part -- I don't want anything heavy, or that I have to worry about breaking, most of the time. If I do, I can drag out a more full featured camera. This is about right for my general use.
Meanwhile, after a couple of false starts, the bluetooth works nicely. The interface (on the iPaq side) is kind of odd at times, one method always works, another does occaisionally, and I don't know why not always... but it certainly does the job, and after I got used to the quirks it does it reliably. I think I will go back to one of the lightweight traffic programs, though...
Beyond that, it's a very good phone, small, lightweight, decent interface (I really like the joystick). It does have a large number of excessively silly features -- the ring speakers are really more than they need to be, I don't need to play "rings" of quite such musical complexity. And that's before you get to the music composition package, the drawing bit (which, admittedly, I suspect will someday provide me great amusement when I'd otherwise be very bored) the really bright, full colored screen (okay, that's useful for the camera...)
To celebrate having sat down and worked it all out, I made myself a couple of new use icons, including the obligatory shadowy staring moodily into the camera shot I used here. Heh.
