Bug vs. Taiji
Mar. 3rd, 2004 10:53 pmSo today was triple class, and this morning I felt great.
This afternoon, on the way in, I felt very sleepy... which isn't that unusual, but usually only happens when I haven't been getting enough sleep. But hey, I wasn't going to skip triple class day.
During wushu, I felt kind of icky, and very dizzy. And kept getting more dizzy (and a little sick to my stomach). So I sat out for the more dynamic parts of the class...
...and then sword started and I was really dizzy. But I really didn't want to miss Chen (Laojia Yilu is so much fun!) and sometimes if I'm catching something, if I do a bunch of Taiji and I get better. Seemed like a worthwhile plan (especially since if I left, Craig was going to leave, which would make me feel guilty). Oh, and my shoulder was feeling good enough to use my (light) sword for the whole class, too, even if I was dizzy. So I persevered, and just tried to be very centered.
(I wasn't sure this was going to work. Usually when I'm on the edge of something, I spend some time in standing meditation, really connect with my center, and I can feel things kind of opening up. This time, I stood and reached for that same sense of connection, and my center said -- I kid you not -- "go to bed". Which seemed like good advice. But I decided to at least spend a little more time in meditation and go through the easy Yang form first, and by the end of that things were feeling a bit better.)
So on it went. Sat out a little in in Chen (I was just sick enough that my mucles were sore, and jumping into horse stance the way I usually do hurt -- wah! such a showy move...), but mostly kept with things. Fell nicely into that altered state that I get wehn I'm practicing on low energy. By the end of class I was profoundly tired, but otherwise feeling better.
So... Did I train diligently, nurture my immune system, and push myself back from the edge? Or did I just expose everyone else in the class. Only time will tell, I guess.
