tylikI am not usually a major proponent of retail therapy... But when I do it, I daresay I do it right. Recently, I've been rather keenly feeling the lack of decent party clothes (well, on those very few occaisions where I go somewhere where party clothes would be appropriate.) I've been resisting the urge to do anything about it, since usually when I buy party clothes I turn around and drop another size or something, and I've been doing a fair bit of that anyway.
But darn it... Every once in a while the girl in me wins. I stopped by Simo Silk in the market. (Said same shop is run by the sweetest people ever -- with my coloring, I really adore buying Chinese clothing, but with my build finding things that fit me is a bit of a challenge. The proprietor has consistently not only lavished attention upon me, but has a really wonderful eye for what might suit me... Often getting me to try things that wouldn't ever have occurred to me on my own.)
I was hoping to get a nice sleeveless top or two. (Eventually I'm going to have a sleeveless uniform made, but I'm putting that off until my body is staying the same shape a little better.) Sadly, I did not leave with one, but I am having one made in mulberry colored silk -- everything was a little too tight in the chest, and a little too loose in the waist... *sigh* But then, this way I get to pick precisely the color I want. (There are a couple of colours -- mulberry, a deep blue, a particular green, that make my skin look creamy and wonderful, and I never find them from American or European manufacturers... If I ever go to live in China, I will have to have everything custom made, but oh, I intend to enjoy the experience.)
But I did leave in possession of an absolutely scandalous blue silk brocade dress, that fits me as if it had been tailored just for me. While it is definately the most feminine thing I have purchased in some time, it also meets my general requirement for clothing of not in any way interfering with my movement, even in some of the more extreme martial arts moves. (Yes, I checked.) And it even displays my somewhat disturbingly muscular legs to suprising advantage.
See? I'm not such a tomboy as all that...
