Now, this was mushroom hunting as a leisure time activity, or I wouldn't have ignored the many fascinating fungi popping up all over the place. Okay, I didn't precisely ignore them, but I did decide that I didn't feel like dragging them back to the lab... Russulas bigger than volleyballs! Delicate feathery lepiotas! Weird earthstars (okay, I collected a couple of them, and a few other real oddities...)

But mostly I collected tons and tons (well, pounds and pounds) of chantrelles. Mostly white, some gold ([livejournal.com profile] rocket_jockey, would you like to do a side by side flavor comparison?). And a bunch of shaggy manes that I will be making for [livejournal.com profile] craigp's dinner as soon as I get off of LJ... And what I think are Armillariella mellea, but I haven't sat down to key them out properly. (I left my really good book in my car... and then borrowed Craig's for the trip. *shakes head*)

So once again... if you'd like to try some chantrelles, do let me know. They're really lovely. And I've far rather give them away fresh than cook and freeze them, though the latter is nice too. (And I'll have plenty for both purposes, believe me.)

Also, a number of people have expressed interest in going hunting with me. Frankly, my schedule sucks, this weekend is pretty close to impossible (saturday is always pretty full, Sunday has exhibition training in the morning, a make up wushu class in the afternoon, and then I have Tracey until Monday evening ;-) ) And next weekend is looking dubious... but if you're free during the week, it'd be fun to have company, and oh, my heavens, the season is in full swing. These rains are doing wonderful things.
