So I just harassed one of my professors into posting links to the readings we're supposed to have done for class on Monday. As in, yes, he just posted them a couple of hours ago.

[Poll #367915]

So I got to wondering... In a lot of classes the readings and lectures seem to cover the same material. I tend to loathe many textbooks, and often found the readings near impossible to get through... and did eventually resort to not buying the textbooks for many of my classes. But only classes where I was pretty sure it was a waste of time and money ;-) In other classes, you'd have to be be darn near suicidal to try that.

Anyhow, going back to school, and having set out this time to be a model citizen (snort!) I've been doing all the readings. And prepping all of my translations ahead of time. And it mostly has me wondering... is it just convention at this point, in most classes, that you'll either read, or attend lectures? I mean, I can see this as a mechanism to accomodate different learning styles, but...
