I was able to train again today, and I didn't hurt myself doing this. (I'm pretty sure I won't even be so sore that it's hard to do Chen tomorrow, which has been a frequent complication of Saturdays.) This so drastically improves my outlook on life that it's almost disturbing. My back is getting better. I'm also getting better at spotting when I'm starting to overdo it, and stopping then. Currently, the magic formula is -- do the warmups that don't impact the SI joint wrong, stretch, do fudementals (but be careful about dropping into crouch stance too fast) don't sweep (that will be one of the first things I add back, though) don't jump, but do cartwheels, and do forms, but again watch the drops into crouch stance. (Sword was pathetic because of not being able to do the drops fast enough. It makes me want to go somewhere by myself and practice it really precisely... at Taiji speeds. A lot.)

It's kind of lame, and it's still pretty embarrassing to sit out, but it's working. I really should go practice with the lower level class -- they do more of things I can do, and almost nothing that will hurt me, so I can get a better workout safer. *sigh* And Shifu keeps saying things about changing the curriculum so that the older students don't do the crazy acrobatic stuff when they get to higher levels... but for heavens sake, isn't that the point of wushu? I should admit that I'm old and decrepit... but I doan wanna. Yet.

And I'm that wonderful kind of tired that only comes after training decently. (2.5 hours of taiji this morning is always nice, of course...)
