Aug. 27th, 2005 07:47 pmSo, I get ingrown toenails from time to time. Seems to increase a lot when I'm using my feet hard and stuffing them into hiking boots at lot (of course, if I really do the job right, the toenails just fall off, which I prefer). Anyhow, last summer, I had one removed, using the temporary method that they prefer. Within six months, the darn thing had not only grown back again, but was ingrown. So I went back to my doctor and ask that she please kill off that section the matrix so the toenail would never ever grow back there. We had a bit of a debate about this, wherein she told me that women always want to preserve their nails for aesthetic reasons, and I counter that I was asking her to blow it away, and while we're at it, let's not get just the one side, let's get the whole thing. So she agreed to kill of that edge of the matrix, and so it was done. The phenol mixture, by the way, definately smells nasty in a "this is going to kill whatever it touches" sort of way. And I went home happy, with one slightly mutilated, but more functional big toe.
A few days ago I noticed that the nail has almost completely regrown. It's not even thinner, or more brittle in the section that was supposed to be dead. Oh well.
