I really need new panniers. Or maybe, I need panniers -- right now I have a pannier, and it's pretty old (which doesn't bother me at all, but it's really not waterproof, and some of the seams have given way and needed to be repaired several times). Somewhere there is its mate, and if I could just find that I could probably delay this whole train of though for at least another quarter. I've spent a fair bit of time looking around the woodinville house, to no avail. It's possible I leant it, just the one, to someone...

The one mostly holds what I need for school. But if I'm going to continue to do most of my shopping by bike, I really need a better arrangement. While one can tie grocery bags to one's rear rack, it's pretty non optimal.

So today has really been taken up with answering a lot of important email, and playing with the web app, and getting course materials and so on, I have the impression that it has been all about riding along the b-g in the sun and the wind. In that spirit, once I got my groceries unloaded (I so need to go to REI, bite the bullet and get some panniers...) I headed up onto the roof of the barge and flew my kite.

Did I mention that one of the great secrets for success is to carefully define your criteria? I only got the kite up a hundred feet at most, and the wind was gusty rather than sustained, so most of the time it was closer in and needed a lot of intervention. OTOH, I only got one very small string burn, I didn't fall off the roof of the barge, and the kite didn't end up in the water. (The kite. The kite tails, which are something like 12 feet long, touched the water a couple of times.)

Someday I will fall into the water. It may well even be intentional. It's obviously kind of icky water, and not the best for swimming, but it's the water right outside my front door, which gives it an appeal of its own.

And I just finished roasting some spaghetti squash (which I will mix with sage and peppers and a little lemon juice, I think), I am about to pop some bread in the oven, I have caponata to make, some homework to do, a paper or two to read...

I feel particularly lucky to be alive.
