What we must give our children is not a reverence for tradition; though we give them the past it must be wholeheartedly as a gift, to do with what they will. But what we can give them of the most value is techniques, and heuristics, all the things that we have found to work, and even moreso the knowledge that none of these are complete or set in stone and that we pass them on in the hope and expectation that they will test each piece, discard some, build on others and remake the whole into something none of us can yet predict.
