Today, for the first time since last winter, I wore my winter weight insulated spandex tights... and I must say that was a good call. I really believe that there is no such thing as bad weather if you have the right gear. That having been said, I was comfortabe enough in the heavy wool socks and sneakers, but boots would have been a better choice. And as fond as I am of the school jacket... the zipper leaks. This wouldn't have occurred to me as a problem, but there was a small river running between my breasts all the way home. I only have two pairs of the heavy tights, though, and the other one isn't nearly as nice as these...

Did you know, by the way, that the majority of hypothermia cases occur when the temperature is between 40-50 degrees F and it's raining? And it's not just because people dress for snow. Snow can fall off you, and rain sticks. And air at below freezing can't carry much moisture, which is rather more efficient at cooling you down than drier air.

I've been pooh-poohing all the talk about the high winds, but when I came home my tomato vines were blown over. Feh.

[Later edit: Okay, the tomatoes are back up, and I got the larger pot draining more efficiently. Part of me think that I should just explain to them that the season is really over and put that part of the garden to rest for the winter (might plant some green onions or kale in the pots)... but then, they are still producing. Lots more cherries, and even a few more paste tomatoes.

And I have a metric fuckton of, well parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme -- honest -- not to mention vietnamese coriander, and more reasonable amounts of mint, oregano and chives. Clearly, I need to cook...

Oh crap, there go the tomatoes again. I guess I need to move them. Sheesh...]

[Another edit: Okay, tomatoes have now been moved, and my deck is in some serious need of swabbing... but I'll let the rain have a go at it first. Of course, moving the tomatoes narrowed the path I usually take my bike through, so I had to move the fig tree, chives, and the pot I had the red urbikanies in. (I should definately get some green onion starts in that thing.

Meanwhile, the tomatoes are now up against the wall, well supported and somewhat protected, warmer, and without significant loss of light. I swear, if they're still going at Yule I'll hang little sun ornaments on them.]
