Jan. 30th, 2007 11:53 amOn either side of the South door going into the rotunda are beautiful hazel trees, covered with golden pollen cones. It's the kind of thing that reminds one that Spring isn't far away. I really do love the sight of hazel. I am also very allergic to it.
On the plus side, after the one (possibly underripe) granny smith that trashed my mouth and throat, I haven't had any other reactions to apples. Yesterday, though, while mixing up another batch of breakfast cereal I idly munched on a raw almond, and had a noticable though fairly mild reaction to it. (Also a known risk.) So I'm going to try and eat this batch, being a little careful, and meanwhile look into using roasted almonds for the next batch -- the objectionable protein is found mostly in the skins (along with a lot of the nutrition) and is fairly easily destroyed by heat. Not sure what esle will be destroyed, though. I shouldn't go anywhere near even roasted hazelnuts for the next bit.
So far, so good. My breathing is okay. Thinking of making an appointment with an allergist anyway. A little worried that I'm pushing things with the breakfast cereal -- my lungs are a little irritated, not sure if it's from that or my ride in. The lovely weather, as much as I enjoy it, is not helping.
I think I'm getting more used to the new training regime. Even without the end of the week days off I'm feeling pretty good. Getting my stretching and weights in... thinking about trying to get some more general conditioning. (Though if I continue biking everywhere... especially if I try and fetch propane by bike. Hee.) Should increase my ab work. And I must remember to jow the heck out of any bruises. Layering bruises is not good.
