Mar. 3rd, 2007 09:48 pmI think part of what made today so great is that I started out by getting enough sleep. In fact, I'd gotten enough sleep for several days in a row, and the amount of sleep that it takes to be "enough" seems to be going down. (I'd been in this kind of awful 6 hours one night followed by nine hours the next pattern.) My body in general seems to be in a reasonable mood, too -- upper back has settled down. SI joint is still not as stable as I'd like, but there's nothing directly wrong, is just kind of lax and wobbly. I should either do some very targetted exercises... or maybe just stand in horse stance until I fall over. I'm thinking I need to do some more concentrated conditioning. I'm extremely happy with my martial arts training at the moment, but I'm not getting enough of the crazy strength and flexibility training I got through wushu. The flexibility I'm doing pretty well maintaining on my own, but I need to add in some more pain and sweat once or twice a week. Have a couple of ideas, there.
The next thing that made today great was that I didn't have that much I needed to do. I cleaned and did laundry, got groceries, read, stretched, IM'd for a bit (such a luxury, really) and then walked down to the lab since I'd left my bike there last night. Actually, I alternated walking and running down to the lab (it's about 2.5 miles, so any gain in time is nice). Something else I haven't indulged in a while -- started running over a year ago, but then last year I had eight solid months of my lungs hating me and I could barely keep up with the training I was already committed to. I've lost a lot of ground, of course, but it felt good. Though dressing for biking and dressing for running is pretty different, and if I keep this up I will soon be re-living my youth and running around in cold weather wearing a t-shirt and gloves, because I hate getting my hands cold. (Though my legs were too messed up to run back then.) And then it turns out that I have come up with a consistant repro for the build problem I've been running into, and it looks like everything logged correctly. So I biked back.
But it's also the little things, like all the ruby chard growing up in the ornamental bed in the plaza above the boat. It looked good enough to eat, so much so that I seriously considered doing a little foraging (just a leaf or two from each plant would have made me a tasty dish) but then, I don't know what they use on those beds. Or walking into the bulk spice section, and smelling the cinnamon, cardamon and ginger. Or finally having the time to start listening to some of the mix CDs that
flinx sent me. (Yes, I'm lame. But the music is great. Thank you!) And getting to really knead the bread enough, instead of getting by with the minimum and rushing off.
