I feel like I should write, but I don't entirely know what to write about.

Saturday had errands, and Sunday did not, otherwise both were moving and getting rearranged days. (I "won" the larger room by the established bidding process. So K is changing rooms. Though we very nearly entered the same bids, which would have led to a coin flip.) This is working out well, in that it leads to a general rearrangement of stuff even before my stuff arrives. The freestanding counter will go next to the kitchen, both scopes will be set up with dust covers on it. The printers will both be networked and in the living room. The couch has been moved, the toilet that tended to run has been repaired.

I also made bread (the starter traveled just fine), caponata, lentil pate, green rice, and did some shopping (including buying a pot of basil), so I am well set for food even while waiting for the rest of my stuff. The other half of my ceramics have arrived, including the bowl and plates I'd never seen, and they are lovely. Mud in Your Eye rocks. Perhaps when the whole set is united -- "set" is not quite the way most people would think of it, I have four place settings, each one of a different glazing -- I will post a picture. Of course, I never posted the pictures of my indoor herb garden on the barge...

I've sent mail to my new PI (I hope to start next week) and to my advisor. The latter I was supposed to meet with to discuss rotation possibilities, and of course I'd jumped the gun on that. OTOH, I started reading about his research, which is in another area I'm particularly interested in, so maybe I'll just talk to him about that. The problem isn't finding labs I'd like to rotate in, it's paring them down. (I hope that if I can visit the labs and meet more people this process will become obvious. And perhaps once I get working I'll focus down a bit more. Right now I'm all kid in a candy shop.)

As for being here, so far the weather has been lovely. Windows open by day, air conditioning at night. (What is a comfortable day time temperature is warmer than I want to sleep in. Or maybe is really is stuffier by night.) There's a lot of wind, which is pleasant, and a lushness to the greenery that I really like. I still need to find a good plant guide. Getting ready to re-start the worm bin. Must find a source for carnivorous plants.

The co-op reminds me a lot of the twelfth street co-op back in the eighties, before organic produce really took off. I like it, but the produce quality isn't what it could be. The Whole Foods is better, but it's Whole Foods... I might volunteer at the co-op, and agitate for better quality stuff. They are also looking for people to write for their monthly newsletter. This sounds like a really fun project, but I'm not sure I should be taking on projects now, and since I prefer to focus on seasonal, local and organic food I feel like I'd prefer to be here a bit longer. Perhaps I will join a CSA, and then I can write about whatever the CSA gives me. Oh! And Whole Foods does carry ducks eggs, though they're sold individually and cost almost twice what they do in Seattle. I think I'll go with that for the moment.

There is a nice list of things to get going. I do need to check out the school that offers Chen, Bagua and Wing Chun. K and I are probably going to take yoga (his teacher, with whom he's been studying for some time, sounds great). Working through Bates, working through Caveman Chemistry... and I should probably look into starting a Chen club on campus if people are interested. Or at least figure out how to, it might make more sense to start it in the fall. I find myself wanting to play harp, which I haven't, particularly, for a while. Of course, my harp is in a truck somewhere...

The hyper babble wore off the fastest yet (maybe the lack of time pressure) but we've still been staying up too late each night talking. I think I've switched over to thenew time zone, though, which should help.
