Survived first neuroanatomy exam. Can't say I feel great about it, but I feel decent, anyway. Maybe it's just that it's over. After over two hours, I was still one of the first people to leave. The essay questions were fine. Diagramming pathways was fine. The multiple choice questions were fiendish.

Really.

Yesterday I got an upset call from C because she'd just gotten called into a meeting in the principal's office because A (oft referred to as one of "my godsons" though that's a term of convenience) had tried to hack the school computers. In fact, it is much lamer than that. A was checking the assignment page. He noticed that there was an "edit" button. He clicked the button. It asked for a password. He clicked the "forgot password" button, and when it asked for an email address gave the email address of his teacher.

It then occurred to him that this wasn't really okay, and he sent email to his teacher to apologize. (C suspects this might have been made more likely by it being the day after Yom Kippur, so he'd been hearing a lot about apologizing to people you'd done poorly by.)

Lame.

Note: had he not sent this email, they would have had no idea that he did this. They might not even have figured out that anyone did anything.

Result: He and C were called into a meeting with the principal where they tried to scare him but proper. C is extremely annoyed, especially since she's afraid that her stories of her own (rather more successful) forays into hacking might have given him the wrong idea. Not to mention his older brother's... More to the point, she doesn't want anyone trying to punish her son for owning up for his action and apologizing. She also managed not to say "That?! That's not hacking! Hell, my *other* son could show you some real hacking!" She didn't tell me which boy right off, and at the end said "This is A, not B, if you can believe it." "Mm. That doesn't really surprise me." "You were thinking that if it were B he'd have been more competent!" And in fact I wasn't exactly, but... yeah, that too. Not that he's really into such things, but he knows his way around.

(B, the other son -- who is, OMG, starting to visit college campuses... well, of the bits his parents know about, the one where he got onto the school computer to find the class assignments that weren't yet public yet so he could turn them in early is probably the highlight. Even when he's bad he's good. What a little nerdling... He wants to study CS, and maybe EE or BME, and take lots of obscure languages.)
