Okay. Diagnosis so far: Avulsion fracture. (Itty bitty bone chip, doesn't really count.) [edit: To clarify, it doesn't count much as a fracture, in my book. What does kind of count is that the bone was broken off by the force of the tendon or ligament that it was attached to.]

Supposed to contact the orthopedist in the morning. Meanwhile, they called the orthopedist, who said to put me in a walking boot. Which was really dumb because a) it didn't support the ankle joint and b) it didn't really fit over my calves of doom. (Why yes, I have muscular calves. Why yes, whole contingents of staff can be amused by them. It was right up there with the discussion outside my door - "I saw that ankle - how can she walk around on that?") So we argued, the nurse took my side, we compromised on an aircast, crutches, and instructions to not put any weight on it.

Somewhere in there it came out that I'd walked in today. (It's a fifteen minute walk! It's not five miles! Uphill! Both ways! And people act like it is when I'm *fine* too. People are surprised that I don't drive to the co-op. Bwah!) I said I needed to get back to the lab, and then I could take a greenie. Of course, I don't really know how the system works, and they kind of figured that out... and, well, campus police gave me a ride back to the lab, where, after I collected my stuff, I was met by a cab. They didn't quite ask Mr. Policeman to make sure I actually got in the cab, but by then the fight was out of me.

Meanwhile, I still don't have any useful information about soft tissue damage, which is what I'm actually concerned about.

I am a little grouchy.

This is the picture I took while bored in the ER, but I couldn't post it from my PDA.

See? It's not *that* bad. Just kind of colorful. (Okay, and my ankle isn't usually that shape, either.) To understand this better - I landed on the top of my foot. I didn't hit the bruised area on anything, the bruising is from internal tears... which is why I'm worried about soft tissue damage. Well, that and the stabilizers on that side of the ankle not really working right now.)
