Mug meme, stolen from [livejournal.com profile] jaunthie

What mugs are in your mug cupboard (or on your mug shelf, or whatever)?
How many, and which ones, did you actually purchase?
Which one(s) do you use most often? Why?
Do you think that the mugs listed below are representative of me?

  • One six inch tall rust and blue massive hand thrown mug from mud in your eye (who made most of my dinnerware) - actually, I had two the same size and shape, but when K decided to buy dinnerware from the same place, he went with the same color scheme as my other one, and then asked if he could have the other mug. I liked that one better, but there's something to be said for a consistent color scheme. (And anyone who has seem my dinnerware...) K uses his every day, I mostly use the big one only if I'm working at home and want a nice big hot mug of something.
  • One smallish green hand turned mug from mud pie. I keep thinking of getting them to make me a couple of place settings, too - their emerald glaze is gorgeous.
  • One medium green, grey blue and purple mug from a potter whose name I do not remember. Excellent size for hot chocolate.
  • Two cobalt glass mugs that I often serve chai in. I'm fond of them, but there's an indentation on the inside where the handle joins which makes them hard to clean.
  • One cobalt glass bowl-mug. Not sure if this counts.
  • One white and cobalt oxide mug with incised knotwork (not very very good - was just starting to play around with it then) that I made in highschool, back in, oh, '87?
  • And at the lab, one hand thrown cream colored mug with a hand worked image of Artemis with her bow on one side and a deer on another that I picked up at Summerstar in... '93? (That or '94, but I think I got the mug in '93.) It's often been my work mug, and I'm particularly fond of it.
  • [edit] Oh! And while they aren't mugs, three absolutely exquisite Japanese tea cups given to me by [livejournal.com profile] dianthus. They're small and cylindrical (actually kind of largish for this kind of tea cup), worked in blue, and while all the designs clearly belong together, they are also all different.

I believe I purchased all of them, with the exception of the one I made. (The cobalt glass I might have bought with Craig, so that's murkier.)

I use the small green mug most often - I drink green tea from it almost every morning. I really like the color and the shape. Next most often is the medium green, grey, blue and purple mug - again, I like the color, and the size. (For I while I was using my large mug more, because I'd broken the handle of the medium one and it took me a while to repair it.

It amuses me that I don't have any mugs with logos or slogans - no computer industry mugs, no academic institution mugs...
