Yak Trax absolutely for the win.

I was running late this morning, so I threw them in my bag as I headed out. Wasn't going to put them on unless something looked particularly bad, but when I got to the top of the goat trail I saw three guys in scrubs, one sprawled across the path, one standing a bit above, still, watching, and another clambering down the final section using hands and feet as if rock climbing. Hm. A bit icy. So I slipped them on my feet (first time ever, and it took maybe thirty seconds) and cheerfully crunched my way down the path. Awesome.

Across the road at the bottom of the hill there's a construction project, and one of the guys working on it called out "They say we're crazy for working up there -" he gestured to the multi story building, "in this weather. But you're going to slide down that hill and break your neck!"

"That's why I have traction devices." I explained, showing him the bottom of my feet. As soon as I reached clear sidewalk I slipped them off.

Used the gloves for the first time today. A little bulky for forming a fist - usable, but if I don't practice bare I'll make loose fists when I'm in Seattle and Shifu will be disappointed - but warm, windproof, comfortable, and excellent for handling a jian. My little finger kind of feels like it's off in its own country. But today wasn't really cold enough to put them through their paces. (Though they're clearly better than any other gloves I own.)
