So I'm trying to see if I can get one set of results repro'd (this time with video - long story there) before I go, so Dr. Chiel can be writing a grant while I'm gone. Might not work, but hey.

I'm also almost out of slugs. Though it turns out that one of the labmates I've been saving slugs for can use my post-surgical slugs, as she just needs them to have intact ganglia.

But still... I need to conserve resources. So I was getting things ready to use Tuesday's surgical slug for this (terminal) biomechanical experiment. Tuesday's slug! My happy head-wavey friend! But if I'm going to re-use slugs, it's important for this prep that I know their odontophores are in full working order, and he's the one for whom this is most clear.

So I sadly prep him for terminal surgery (i.e., anesthetising him, and prior to cutting out his feeding apparatus and two important ganglia.)

And then I botch the prep. I mean, look - I do the animal experiments. It's not always easy, but I've made my peace with it. (Or at least I make my peace with it on a daily basis.) But that my happy head wavey friend is going to die for no data? Because I'm a doof?! Weh.

Meanwhile, I have another slug in the freezer.
